They will teach you a lot more than a worksheet full of easy problems.

Simplifying a mathematics problem is a strategy that often is used along with other problem-solving strategies.

When a problem is too complex to solve in one step, it often helps to divide it into simpler problems and solve each one separately.

Billstein, Libeskind and Lott have adopted these problem solving steps in their book "A Problem Solving Approach to Mathematics for Elementary School Teachers (The Benjamin/Cummings Publishing Co.).

They are based on the problem-solving steps first outlined by George Polya in 1945.
