Sponsored by the Cambridge University Press, this highly prestigious competition aims to challenge young people’s thinking and the means by which they can express their views, using creative forms of writing such as essays, poems, stories or scripts.The process of writing engages students to consider the potential of the Commonwealth in strengthening the links between citizens in a globalised and interconnected world.

The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition, under the Royal Commonwealth Society, was launched by HRH The Duchess of Cornwall as a chance for all young Commonwealth citizens and residents to share ideas and develop their creative skills in the spirit of multi-cultural and global connection aross the Commonwealth.

Both the Senior and the Junior judging panels were impressed by the quality of the entries.

This year the top Winners and Runners-up come from Cyprus, Tristan da Cunha, Botswana and the Cayman Islands;additionally the judges selected one additional Senior entrant and two additional Junior entrants to receive special commendations.

The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition 2015, based on the theme of ‘A Young Commonwealth’, met with a record response.

The Royal Commonwealth Society received more than 13,000 entries from over 600 schools in 49 Commonwealth countries and territories.

On the evening of February 11th, 2014 at an elegant reception hosted at the British High Commissioner to India’s residence in the capital, Sir James Bevan KCMG (British High Commissioner to India) and Shivani Wazir Pasrich (Chairperson, Commonwealth Society of India; Asia Representative, Royal Commonwealth Society) announced the 130th Commonwealth Essay Competition, the beginning of a meaningful and active journey that will nurture and present a dynamic platform to young Indian talent to flourish in the future. The Royal Commonwealth Society partnered with Cambridge University Press for this competition which aims at internationally minded individuals.

In total over 3,000 participants won an award, Gold, Silver or Bronze. Mary’s Canossian College Congratulations to all Hong Kong Award winners and to all that entered.

In recognition of their achievement, the Winners and Runners-Up were flown to London for October’s ‘Winners’ Week’, five days of cultural and educational activities, culminating in a special award event at Buckingham Palace.
